Queen Modjadji (Season 1)
Queen Modjadji is a South African television period drama series inspired by the Balobedu rainmaker, the first Queen Modjadji, whose bloodline has ruled Southern Africa’s Lobedu clan for centuries.
Born to the throne and blessed with an elemental ancestral gift, her reign gave rise to a succession of hereditary queens. Her story is the story of a matriarchal dynasty, whose ability to transform the clouds and summon the rain has earned the Balobedu royalty a place among the most revered of African dynasties.
Makoma Mohale stars as Maselekwani (Queen Modjadji), the young queen-in-waiting who brings about a golden age of peace and prosperity to the land.
Masutang Hope Rasekele is Dzugudini, the daughter of the Rain King and the mother of Queen Modjadji, who is a crucial part in the Lobedu history as she is instrumental in saving the kingdom from a catastrophe of drought.
